August 14, this Saturday, will see the return of the beloved and nerdy tradition known as Free Comic Book Day.
Canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, local shops will be offering free comic books to every customer along with special in-shop deals, artist and author signings, free posters, and chances to win exclusive prizes.
Free Comic Book Day was started in 2002 by comic distribution juggernaut Diamond. This year features dozens of titles and new releases including popular franchises like The Avengers and Star Wars and indie comics from smaller publishing companies.
See the complete list of comics here.
According to Diamond’s Free Comic Book Day website, the selections of books will prove “that there’s truly a book for everyone: from superheroes to popular film and television shows, to beloved video games, and all-ages tales.”
Additionally, Free Comic Book Day is about supporting local shops, and Summit Counties’ comic shops will be giving away comics and hosting events.
Given the rise in COVID-19 cases, the shops ask that all customers wear facemasks and respect social distancing.
